They came out today to look at it. Sure enough, it was extremely low on refrigerant AND the thermostat was broken, besides the obvious sucking-in-cold-attic-air problem of missing a cover.
It's all fixed now, and I feel vindicated. But why couldn't they have listened to me in January, and saved the kids and me a month of shivering AND a huge electricity bill in February? Why did it take someone with a phallus to get them to take care of this?
I guess in Georgia, women aren't supposed to know about heat pumps.
